Tesla hinted at the possible return of the Model Y Performance with a new post on the Tesla Europe and Middle East X account.
The Performance trim has been noticeably absent from the Model Y lineup since its redesign for the 2026 model year.

Tesla hinted at the Model Y Performance’s return with a post on X that was simply captioned “Spoiler Alert.” What appears to be the rear spoiler of a car can be seen in the video, along with the date August 29, 2025—alluding to the date of the product reveal.

Tesla is always coy with performance metrics, and the revived model hasn’t yet been officially confirmed, leaving us to make educated guesses. But, looking at the similarly updated Tesla Model 3 lineup should be a great predictor for the Model Y, which tends to follow in the sedan’s footsteps.
The updated Model 3 Performance gets its motivation from a pair of motors (one for each axle) that combine for up to 510 horsepower and 554 pound-feet of torque. The current-generation sedan is more than just quick in a straight line, and we think the new Y will have solid handling characteristics on the road. Tesla typically plays fast and loose with vehicle launch timelines, so check back here in case the automaker decides to ship right away.
