A cyberattack against JLR resulted in the automaker stopping its global production starting on September 1.
The company began by shutting down its internal systems on September 2 and is currently rebuilding them.
A spokesperson for JLR confirmed earlier this month to Car and Driver that the production stoppage was expected to continue until at least Wednesday, September 24.
UPDATE 9/23/25: This story has been updated to reflect a revised timeline from JLR, in which company has delayed resuming production until October 1. “We have made this decision to give clarity for the coming week as we build the timeline for the phased restart of our operations and continue our investigation,” a spokesperson for the company said in a statement to Car and Driver. “Our teams continue to work around the clock alongside cybersecurity specialists, the NCSC, and law enforcement to ensure we restart in a safe and secure manner.”

A cyberattack against JLR, the automaker that builds Jaguar and Land Rover, resulted in a production pause that will keep the automaker out of commission until at least September 24, a spokesperson confirmed to Car and Driver.
The attack occurred on September 1, leading the automaker to shut down its internal systems. It not only took out JLR’s domestic production but also resulted in the automaker pausing its entire global operation.

According to a report from Autocar, the attack came from the same group that hit the British clothing retailer Marks & Spencer earlier this year. The same Autocar story reports that the shutdown could be costing JLR as much as $6.8 million per day. The company’s three plants in the U.K. normally produce about 1000 vehicles per day, according to Reuters.

In an email to Car and Driver, a spokesperson for JLR confirmed that the shutdown could extend for more than another week. “Today we have informed colleagues, suppliers and partners that we have extended the current pause in our production until Wednesday 24th September 2025,” the spokesperson wrote.
“We have taken this decision as our forensic investigation of the cyber incident continues, and as we consider the different stages of the controlled restart of our global operations, which will take time. We are very sorry for the continued disruption this incident is causing, and we will continue to update as the investigation progresses.”
