Lucid Gravity’s Quarter-Mile Time Is the Quickest of Any SUV We’ve Tested

With 1070 hp from a pair of electric motors, the Gravity Dream Edition beat out the Rivian R1S Tri-Motor and the Lamborghini Urus Performante.

The Lucid Gravity Dream Edition covered a quarter-mile in just 10.6 seconds at 140 mph in Car and Driver testing.

That makes it the quickest SUV we’ve ever tested, beating out the 2025 Rivian R1S Tri-Motor Max.

The Gravity even beats a Chevrolet Corvette Z06 to 150 mph—by almost three seconds!

Welcome to Car and Driver’s Testing Hub, where we zoom in on the test numbers. We’ve been pushing vehicles to their limits since 1956 to provide objective data to bolster our subjective impressions (you can see how we test here).

The Lucid Gravity, the second model from the fledgling California-based brand, is packed to the gills with rich materials, power-adjustable, heated, and ventilated front seats, and glistening screens. But along with being well-equipped for carrying up to seven people in luxurious comfort, the Lucid Gravity Dream Edition is also now the quickest SUV Car and Driver has ever tested over a quarter-mile.

Lucid Takes the Quarter-Mile Crown

At the test track, the Gravity Dream Edition—motivated by two electric motors producing 1070 horsepower—covered a quarter-mile in just 10.6 seconds at 140 mph. That puts it ahead of other high-powered electric SUVs such as the 2025 Rivian R1S Tri-Motor Max, which recently completed the same run in 11.1 seconds at 121 mph, and the BMW iX M60, which recorded an 11.5-second run at 120 mph. The Mercedes-AMG EQE53 SUV matched the BMW’s time but was three mph slower at the line.

The Gravity was also quicker than the Lamborghini Urus Performante, which blitzed the quarter-mile in 11.2 seconds at 122 mph, and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT (11.2 @ 121). Unfortunately, we have not tested a Tesla Model X Plaid, which would challenge the Lucid with a tri-motor powertrain emitting 1020 horsepower.

Intriguingly, the Gravity was slower than the 850-hp R1S Tri-Motor to 60 mph. The Gravity’s 3.1-second sprint was three-tenths off the Rivian’s time, but by the quarter-mile, the Lucid had pulled a half-second ahead and was traveling nearly 20 mph faster. The Rivian’s better jump off the line might be due to its torque advantage: 1103 pound-feet versus the Lucid’s 909. Testing director Dave VanderWerp, who drove the Gravity at the test track, reported that the Lucid “gets a sort of second wave of thrust starting around 60 mph.”

Almost Quicker Than a Corvette at the Drag Strip

“The front end lifts, the steering goes light, and it absolutely rockets from there to an easy 160-mph top speed,” he said. To further contextualize how rapid this 6100-pound SUV is, consider that it nearly matches a 3666-pound, 670-hp Chevrolet Corvette Z06 through the quarter-mile, just one tenth of a second off yet tripping the lights some nine mph faster. By 150 mph, the Gravity is almost three seconds ahead, hitting that mark in 12.3 seconds.

The Gravity didn’t just impress in the quarter-mile, it was a beast in every acceleration metric. The Gravity leapt to 30 mph in 1.4 seconds, was up to a highway-ready 70 mph in 3.7 seconds, and had eclipsed 100 mph in just 5.9 seconds. Lucid restricts the Gravity to a top speed of 160 mph, and the SUV was bumping up against its limiter in just 15.5 seconds. A luxury SUV that will mostly be driven to the store and used to schlep kids to school definitely doesn’t need to be this potent, but as the name suggests, the Lucid is about dreaming big, and the Gravity’s face-melting quarter-mile run delivers on that dream.
