Chevy Blazer Returns for 2026 Despite Reports of the SUV’s Demise
The Blazer was reportedly getting axed after the 2025 model year, along with other GM SUVs, but Chevy’s mid-sizer lives to die another day.
The Chevy Blazer will live on for the 2026 model year, despite reports that it would be discontinued.
GM was reportedly set to only build EVs at its factory in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, where the gas-powered Blazer is currently made.
A GM spokesperson confirmed there will be a 2026 Blazer and a 2026 Cadillac XT5; the latter was among the other ICE SUVs said to be on the chopping block.
UPDATE 7/18/25: A GM spokesperson told Car and Driver that the gas-powered Chevy Blazer will live on for the 2026 model year. This comes after a report earlier this year claimed that the two-row mid-size SUV was getting axed along with some of GM’s other internal-combustion SUVs, including possibly the Cadillac XT5, which has also been confirmed for the 2026 model year.
The Chevrolet Blazer that’s sold in North America is on the chopping block, according to a report by GM Authority. That’s the gas-powered Blazer, not Chevy’s electric Blazer EV. However, both mid-size SUVs are built at the same factory in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico.
GM reportedly plans to only manufacture electric vehicles at its Mexican facility, which is expected to lead to the Blazer’s demise, at least the versions sold in the United States and Canada. The extended-wheelbase three-row Chevy Blazer that’s currently sold exclusively in China isn’t expected to be impacted by the end of production.

When Car and Driver asked about the reported plans to discontinue the gas-burning Blazer, a Chevy spokesperson declined to comment. If GM Authority’s sources are correct, the Blazer will survive the rest of the 2025 model year before it goes out of production, which would leave Chevy’s U.S. lineup without a two-row mid-size SUV featuring an internal-combustion engine. Then again, it still offers a gas version of the compact Equinox and the three-row Traverse.
The Blazer might not be the last of GM’s ICE SUVs to bite the dust, as the aging Cadillac XT5 and the larger XT6 are expected to meet the same fate. Last month, GM Authority reported that both of them will be discontinued in North America after the 2025 model year.
